DIY Halloween Decor

I think I saw these a while back on Martha Stewart, and I just fell in love with them. So I made some. It takes very few supplies, and there's not much to it, so even beginner crafters would find this project easy! I really love to decorate for Halloween, but I mostly enjoy using black and white decor rather than having too much orange, green, or purple in there. So these fit in perfectly with my scheme!

How cute are these?! I just love the old haunted feeling that the cursive background and crow brings. I don't have any pictures of how I put these together, since I made them B.B. {Before Blogging}, but I will talk you through it, and I promise it will be just fine.

I gathered four frames from the dollar store, two larger, and two smaller. I found some crow silhouettes, scrap book paper, and the RIP at Hobby Lobby. I wrote out Eek on some black construction paper and then cut it out.

Next you will cut your scrap book paper to fit inside your frames. I used double sided tape to stick the crow silhouettes and the Eeek on the paper. The RIP already had little stickies on the back. And that's it for the inside of the frames!

The last thing, is to attach the ribbon to both of the frames. I bought some thick black ribbon, and cut each strip the same length, so that the frames would hang the same. Then I took my hot glue gun and glued each end of ribbon to the bottom of the larger frame, and the top of the smaller frame.

Doneskies!

What are your favorite colors to decorate Halloween in? Do you like more cutsie decorations, or more "haunting" ones?

Halloween {Mantle}

Halloween is Nigh! I just really love this time of year. The weather is changing and it is the official start of the holiday season. And since I am in a house this year, I was super excited to finally get to do some outdoor and Mantle decorations. Except this house doesn't have a fireplace, so I had to build my own mantle. Which is totally OK with me! Here is what I did with the first Halloween Mantle I have ever decorated:

What do you think?! I really had so much fun decorating this mantle. I took all my fall decorations down, except the antique window frame. I added the two scrap book paper pages in each corner of the window, and then used some black cheese cloth that I got at the Dollar Tree, to drape behind it.

I already had this chandelier candelabra, and I decided to add it to give the mantle a haunted mansion type feel. The crows are all also from the Dollar Tree, except the bigger one with it's wings spread. That one was a tad more expensive, and it came from Michaels.

I bought these white pumpkins in a bag of mixed pumpkins from Tom Thumb (also Randalls) and just wrote on them with black sharpie. You can probably tell that I did not use a stencil or anything since my letters aren't all uniform. Meh. When I make things for myself for the house, I'm a little more lax about it being perfect. It's only when I'm making the things that I sell that I make sure every little thing is in the perfect place. But just for myself... I'm a little lazy.

Can you tell that I love that chandelier just a little?

I made this little frame last year, and it is so simple. I bought the frame at the Dollar Tree and sprayed it white. Then I cut a small piece of burlap, and used a rubber stamp that I found at Hobby Lobby. I dipped it in paint, and then stamped it on the burlap. Done and Done.
And I really love the little pop of orange that the antique book brings. At first I just wanted to stick with black and white and neutrals, but I tried it out to see how I would like it, and it just worked.

For the "Crows Tree", I used a vase I had from the Dollar Tree (no, I am not advertising for them, I just shop there A LOT), and filled it with some Spanish moss. Then I added those three branches that I gathered from around our neighborhood.

And that's it! What do you think of it? Is this your first year decorating a Halloween Mantle, or have you done several?

Creepy {Crawly} Fossil Cookies

The other day I did a guest post for my bloggy buddy Sarah over at High Heels & Grills. I shared this fun and easy Halloween treat, but I wanted to share it with all of you guys too! My friend and I started up a craft club (anyone in the Fort Worth, Texas area?!), and I am hosting our first meeting on October 6th. So I wanted to have some fun treats for the girls while we are crafting up a storm together! I found this idea on Martha Stewart.com. Of course. Good ol' Martha.

Here is what you'll need to make these creepy crawly fossil cookies:
Ready to mix cookie dough (or pretty much any cookie dough of your choice)
Food safe plastic creepy crawly bugs ( I got some at the Dollar Tree)

So I used this ready to mix peanut butter cookie dough. It's nice when you just want to get something in the oven quick, or you don't have the time or all the ingredients on hand to make them from scratch. I mixed these up real quick, and then put a table spoon of dough in my hand and flattened it out with the palm of my hand. Lay these "stone shaped" cookies on a greased piece of foil, or parchment paper.

Next, take your creepy crawly and coat it in flour. Then lay it face down in the cookie dough "stones" you have on the cookie sheet. Press it gently into the dough to make a good impression. Repeat this for the rest of your cookies. Once you have done this to all of them, remove the creepy crawly from the dough, and place the cookie sheet in the freezer. Leave them in the freezer to firm up for about 15-20 minutes.

Bake the cookies according to package (or your recipe) directions. And voila! Fossil cookies!

What do you think? Are these fun or what?! I really love the way they turned out, and I can't wait to make them again for the Craft Club Meeting! I think everyone will just eat them up... Baha!

Well, I hope you guys liked this fun and easy little treat. They would be great for any Halloween party, favor, or for a fun after school snack for your kids!

I would love to see these if you make them, so shoot me an email and send me pics of how they turned out!

Cheese Grater Pumpkins {Tutorial}

Hello everyone! How goes the fall and Halloween decorating? Are you in the thick of it, or just getting started? I love decorating for fall and Halloween, and this year I was trying to come up with something different that I haven't seen before... Enter my Cheese Grater Pumpkins. I posted those a week ago or so, and I've had lots of questions on how I did them. So here is the tutorial! Yay!

What You'll Need For These:
Three Metal Cheese Graters
Dremel Tool (With metal cutting bit)
Orange Spray Paint
Brown Spray Paint
Sand Paper
Green Fabric of Choice
E6000 Glue
Blue Painters Tape
Small Glass Votive Candles

Ok, so the first thing you need to do is to get yourself some cheese graters. I picked mine up at the Dollar Tree. And I know Wal-Mart also carries the metal cheese graters. If you want to have your cheese graters at varying heights, you'll need to cut them. I had my hubzy use his dremel to cut the bottom off one of the cheese graters. Then I filed it down a tad so that it wasn't so sharp.

Now, you can glue the cut off bottom to one of the other cheese graters, to give it a little height. It should fit perfectly right inside the cheese grater, and wont need much glue. Just a few dabs in the corners should do it. {I don't have a picture of this for some reason}

Once the glue is dry, you're ready to start working on them. I took the brown spray paint and gave all the cheese graters a coat. Once that was dry, I taped off the handles with painters tape, and then sprayed all the cheese graters with Krylons Pumpkin Orange. When the orange spray paint is dry, you can start to sand them up a little!

Peel off the painters tape from the handles carefully, and then take your sand paper square and start to go over all the edges and grooves. This part is totally up to you - if you want a heavily distressed look or not. When you are done sanding, all that is left is to cut three strips of fabric to tie on the handles for your "leaves". Then, DONE!

Find a good spot for them, then place the glass votives inside, and enjoy the pretty glow! I just love mine, and have gotten several compliments on how different they are.

I think I answered all the questions, but if you have any more don't hesitate to email me! And I would love to see pictures of yours if you try them.
